Chicago Street Festival Style

Chicago’s Street Festivals are the perfect opportunity to explore a new neighborhood while sampling great food and enjoying live music! With something happening every weekend, you’re sure to find a fest to suit your fancy.

Jess Keys of The Golden Girl blog shared some great tips on what to wear at Chicago’s best neighborhood festivals with WGN morning news. Local bloggers showed off perfect hot weather styles (including finds from Art Effect) to wear when you’re heading to Wicker Park Fest, Taste of River North, Greek Fest or own our neighborhood’s upcoming Sheffield Garden Walk this summer.

Did we leave your favorite off the list? let us know!

The view from here.

Our block is among the most beautiful in Chicago. Lined with historic storefronts dating from 1870-1930, the Armitage-Halsted District in Lincoln Park was granted landmark status in 2002. Looking up, we are treated to corner turrets, bay windows, pressed metal cornices, terra-cotta ornaments, and brick and stone patterning in architecture unchanged from the Victorian era. The Armitage El station, just west of our shop, was opened in 1900 making it one of the oldest train stations in US history to be in continuous operation.  Treelined cross streets are filled with stately brick row-houses and graystones. Our storefront at 934 W. Armitage opened in 1906 as Shinnick’s Drug Store. The original Armitage Hardware,  across the street from Art Effect on Armitage and Bissell, operated as a prohibition era speak-easy and it’s rumored that Al Capone ran a tavern on the block.

Take a moment to appreciate the view and be inspired by our colorful history!

We made the list!

This month’s House Beautiful includes the magazine’s first ever coast to coast guide of the best design stores in America. From New York to LA, they’ve picked 8 neighborhoods to feature, each with unique shops to inspire you to keep decorating. Our very own Lincoln Park’s dynamic shopping scene  is highlighted and we’re thrilled to be on the selective list!

Here’s what they said about us: “A beloved boutique with hot-pink walls that reflect its outside-the-box vibe. Owl bookends and monogrammed tumblers share shelf space with decorative handcrafted ribbons and vintage charts.”

See the whole story over at  House Beautiful.
